Description
of Burrillville
The
town of Burrillville is both rural and progressive. The major
villages are Pascoag, Harrisville, Mapleville, Oakland, Glendale
and Nasonville. There are a number of other locations such
as Bridgeton, Wallum Lake, Tarkiln, Mohegan, Mount Pleasant
and Gazzaville.
The Town Hall is located in Harrisville, an attractive village
that includes a scenic waterfall and a gazebo enhanced town center.
Pascoag is the largest village. It is home to the scenic Pascoag
Reservoir and like many rural villages across the country, is
struggling with the vitality of its Main Street.
Burrillville is dotted with remnants of textile mills that were
once the economic mainstay of the Town. Today, while there are
local employment opportunities, many residents work out of town.
The Town has long been and still is an ice hockey stronghold.
There are many opportunities to participate in or view the action,
at the local rink.
Unlike Glocester, many areas in Burrillville have public water,
public sewer and public trash collection. The capable Town Highway
department is diligent to attack any snowstorm at the sight of
the first flurry.
Citizens of Burrillville tend to like the rural flavor of the
Town, while seeming to recognize that a moderate amount of growth
and convenience is desirable.
