Heritage Poem
by George Zifchock

At Saxonville, go up the hill, and
then you'll be in Turkeyville.

Turkeyville is near the Peak
continue on down towards the Creek.

The Town around the Creek you'll see
is known as Monkeytown to me.

At Monkeytown you'll swing around and
then head down to Rhodesville Town.

Rhodesville Town the place to be,
Captain Rhodes well known at sea.

The Gazza Steamboat ran its line and
Whipple was once great and fine.

The mighty Tarkiln set the pace
It all had its start at the old Smith place.

This was our Town in days of Yore.
I think that I should tell you more.

Our Summer brought a life of ease; but
Our kind of Winter, an early Freeze.

The Nipmucs settled, now they're gone.
They left their mark, their bows were long.

The odd name Pascoag, "by the Snake"
Our largest pond is Wallum Lake.

Grist Mills, Saw Mills, Railroads, too,
I wonder what they did for you?

The buzzing factories near four-score
A few are left, but not much more.

They worked the Wool and some the Wood
The outlook for our Town was good.

Stores were full, an Opera House
Everything needed for man or House.

A Railroad here, come and gone;
But, why should we be so forlorn?

The Future's Bright and Burrillville's Right:
You can't lick a Town so full of fight.
